If You Aren’t Calling DA Sean Teare, You Aren’t Calling for Justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

DA Sean Teare’s number is (713) 274-5800.  He is the District Attorney for Harris County.  He serves Houston where ICE agents have been directed by the President and his co-conspirators at the Department of Homeland Security to deprive the Constitutional rights of the people that live and work there.  It is his job to hold them accountable.

Donald Trump and his criminal network have brutalized civilians and public officials alike. They have aggressively and illegally denied the rights of citizens and migrants in the streets, their homes, their workplaces, and in concentration camps within Harris County and across the country.  On July 7, they murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

In the United States, when people – even federal officials -  commit crimes, they can be held accountable in a court of law.  Because these federal officials have committed crimes under the color of law within the borders of Harris County, it is the responsibility of DA Sean Teare to launch an investigation, summon a grand jury, and secure indictments against them.  Refusing to do so is a failure to uphold his duties as a public official.    

We cannot continue to shake our fists at the sky and expecting it to rain liberty.  We have to apply pressure and support in the right places.  And we need to demand specific, strategic action. We need to pressure DA Sean Teare to being pursuing indictments immediately.

The only reason the President hasn’t been indicted and prosecuted in courts across the nation for his crimes is that not a single DA or State AG has filed charges.

Democratic prosecutors, whether too scared of retribution or to uninformed on their new powers, have chosen inaction. The people, falsely believing that the Supreme Court granted Trump immunity for an insurrection, haven’t mobilized to pressure these officials to file charges because they don’t believe they can or they don’t believe the Supreme Court will allow it.  Both claims are false. 

The Supreme Court issued new guidelines for how and when to prosecute a sitting President. This includes ending the monopoly the Department of Justice had on Executive Branch accountability, and grating indictment powers to District Attorneys and State Attorneys General.

 While Trump was allowed to walk out of a courtroom and into the Oval office after his attack on the capitol, he wasn’t cleared of the charges he faced.  justice was delayed - not denied.  Unfortunately, it was delayed until after the election.  Americans were led to believe what they saw was an acquittal.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Department of Justice hadn’t met the requirements of their new guidelines when Jack Smith prosecuted Donald Trump.  They didn’t say they wouldn’t convict Trump. They said they wouldn’t convict him unless prosecutors like Jack Smith walked the path those guidelines provide.  Smith was sent back to the lower courts to meet the new requirements.  DA Bragg’s hush money case was allowed to move his case forward to sentencing after the ruling because his work aligned with the new guidelines. This is why Trump is a convicted felon today. He didn’t go to prison because DA Bragg didn’t ask for prison time.  We still have that option.

There is no reason not to pursue indictment,  If you want Justice for Lorenzo, pick up the phone and call Harris County DA Sean Teare at (713) 274-5800.  Give you’re friends and family his number and tell them to call him.  All you have to say is “I want justice for the murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.  You have the authority to hold ICE, DHS, and the President accountable.  I am demanding that you take action and begin pursuing indictment against all of them immediately.”

Justice may literally just be a phone call away.  Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a good man with a loving family.  He didn’t deserve to die.  He had the right to live.  We need justice.  We need DA Sean Teare to do his job and secure it.
